Magnetix Rod MAGNETIX® products were first introduced to consumers in 2003. MAGNETIX construction sets became an instant hit with kids, engaging them for hours with endless creative building possibilities. Upon learning about the dangers of multiple magnet ingestion, MEGA Brands immediately launched a quality and safety investigation. MEGA Brands took action by implementing measures to ensure the safety of MAGNETIX products. MEGA Brands chose to:

  • Jointly issue a voluntary recall and replacement campaign with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and encourage consumers to return their MAGNETIX product for a free replacement toy.
  • Alert parents and caregivers to keep the product away from children who mouth objects and especially those under the age of 3.
  • Improve our product by re-designing the components. The re-designed products meet exacting MEGA Brands quality and manufacturing standards.
  • Work closely with Dr. Kim Thompson of the Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH) to develop our own magnet ingestion warning label for packaging.
  • Make sure all product packaging is clearly labeled 6+.
  • Develop an educational safety bulletin with the Toy Industry Association and the HSPH for parents and caregivers about the fundamental importance of supervising and engaging children at play.
